Default Mississippi Photo Supply Sources?

I have, mostly, moved to Brandon, MS; just east of Jackson.

I found the Jackson Photographic Society. What else is in the Jackson area
that I should be aware of to meet my photo needs? Is there any place that
will process B&W film or slides local?

If all you need are negatives, there is little easier than
developing B&W film. And you can do it better yourself
than 99% of the labs you can send it to.

A tank & reel, a thermometer, and a bottle each of
Microdol-X, fix, and photoflo. Load the reel in the
closet, process at the kitchen sink, hang from the
shower curtain rail to dry.

To get really 'down home' ...

For developer use "Caffenol": 4 tsp. Folger's instant,
2 tsp. washing soda and 8 oz of rain water. If you use
fresh rainwater for the final rinse you don't need
photoflo.

Washing soda (Sodium Carbonate) is getting harder to
find, but I'm sure it is still a staple in Mississippi.
If not then heat some baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) in
an oven @ 350F for 15 minutes. Sodium Carbonate is also sold
for swimming pools as 'pH Plus'.

I've gotten printable negs from left-over morning coffee
and baking soda straight from the box.

There are versions using Vitamin C and Tylenol. Stewed
grass clippings would probably also work - most any organic
reducing agent will develop film.

For fixer you can get Sodium Thiosulfate from a pond, pool,
or aquarium supply (Wal-Mart even).

To heck with a tank and reel: use kitchen bowls for
developing, rocking the film back and forth. Don't
need tongs & stuff because the developer is coffee.

Actually in NC for $3.25 I could pay someone else to do it and not have to
mess with the damn reels, that's where I would always mess it up. And I
would get the entire roll in one sleeve so I could cut them myself.
Everyone was happy. :-)

Deville Camera & Video may meet your needs.
www.devillecameraandvideo.com

I have a friend who lives in Richland, and he used Deville to convert
old home movies to video.

Did you hit Brandon in time to catch the magnolias in bloom? It would
be a pity if you had to wait a year to take the obligatory snap....

Ackshooly, if it's easy you're after, there's always chromogenic (C-41
process) B&W film you can just take to the drugstore or whereever. Never
used it, but I hear it yields good results ...

"Wikipedia ... it reminds me ... of dogs barking idiotically through
endless nights. It is so bad that a sort of grandeur creeps into it.
It drags itself out of the dark abyss of pish, and crawls insanely up
the topmost pinnacle of posh. It is rumble and bumble. It is flap and
doodle. It is balder and dash."

Bummer. That means you missed the pine pollen harvest, too. Oh, well.
You still have plenty of time to get to know kudzu and fire ants.

I already know kudzu from NC and the fire ants will need to get used to
someone that thoroughly believes in better living through chemistry. I
already treated the living area acres once and am working on the field areas
as I see them. My wife has severe reactions and I have a 5 year old boy
that I know is just dying to meet "the ants that spit fire."
