Filming with a drone
This short film was made by the son of my protégé. I've known Tom since
he was a small boy and he has always had a passion for technology. He now specialises in filming with drones, and this is a recent example of his work. Something to which Savageduck should aspire? ;-) https://www.badwolfhorizon.com/fpv-d...lming-cornwall I hope you can appreciate Tom's skill. -- Kind regards, David |

One thing that struck me from the Duck's videos was how astonishingly stable they were; but I suspect that had quite a lot to do with the tech in the latest Mavic. I'm still dithering about whether to invest either in the mini or perhaps in the grown up one. |

One thing that struck me from the Duck's videos was how astonishingly stable they were; but I suspect that had quite a lot to do with the tech in the latest Mavic. I'm still dithering about whether to invest either in the mini or perhaps in the grown up one. There are two distinct schools when it comes to drone flying and photography, the stable GPS camera platforms and the FPV(First Person View) quads. If one is more photography oriented then the GPS camera drone is the way to go. The main advantage, and disadvantage if the Mavic Mini, and to be released on November 4 Mini 2 is their sub 250 gram weight. As it is sub 250 g it does not require registration, and can be flown without registration in many countries. That makes it a reasonable choice for travel. However, the light weight, and relatively low power makes it particularly vulnerable in windy/gusty conditions. From what I have read it seems that the DJI Mini is one that suffers most from being lost due to fly-aways, blow aways, or just unable to return to home agains the wind. Also, it does not have obstacle avoidance sensors which can lead to damage, and/or loss. From a photographer’s point of view you still have a smaller sensor than that found on the Mavic Air 2 (½ inch), or the Mavic 2 Pro (1 inch). My Mavic Air 2, and the pricier, larger drones are more capable in windy conditions, and have good obstacle avoidance systems. So my recommendation is, if you can afford it consider the Mavic Air 2 over the Mavic Mini/new Mini 2. Either way they are great fun. There are some very promising drones from Autel such as the Evo 2 Pro, and the Skydio 2, but the best value as far as I can see is the DJI Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo. This was Tuesday morning down at Morro Bay: https://photos.smugmug.com/Air-2-Work/i-wss6rGZ/0/66f7d575/1920/DJI_0080-1920.mp4 -- Regards, Savageduck |

When you consider the FOV and the distance to the subject, a lot of the apparent stability is therein. Not to dismiss the gyros on these, they are astonishingly good. I even wonder if there is some image based stabilization in the loop. The main issue with most DJI drones (incl. mine) is occasionally the horizon will appear slightly tilted. Very annoying. Hopefully this is corrected in later versions. -- "...there are many humorous things in this world; among them the white man's notion that he is less savage than the other savages." -Samuel Clemens |

By the way, also underwater drones exist (even wireless ones).
