Omega D5 XL
Hello all.. I just purchased an Omega D5 XL enlarger to replace my D2.
For some reason, I am unable to focus an image with my 50mm lens, though I've been able to on any other enlarger I've used it with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff. |

I am unable to focus an image with my 50mm lens, The D5 has both a coarse and fine focus. Underneath the lens mount you should find a short lever to rotate to allow the lens mount to slide up and down on a dove tail type of track. A separate track from the usual focusing track. Bob AZ Bob AZ |

Regards, John S. Douglas, Photographer - http://www.darkroompro.com Please remove the "_" when replying via email I probably should have clarified.. It's a D5 XL with Superchromega DII head. No condensers. I'm able to focus on this enlarger with an 80mm but the head is so far from the baseboard by the time I get the size print I want it takes for ever to expose the paper.. The D2 I just sold (to pay for this enlarger) also had a chromega head and I was able to use this lens on that enlarger without problem. Plenty of room on either side of the focal point for fine adjustments. It seems with the D5, I almost need a recessed lend board to use this lens.. Still looking for suggestions and appreciate any and all help. Thanks, Jeff |

It has a release lever on the beam which is used to provide more or less extension depending upon which lens is used. Twist that lever counter-clockwise and push upward, then re-lock the mechanism. The flat lensboard on the D5XL will accommodate 50~150mm lenses. Regards, John S. Douglas, Photographer - http://www.darkroompro.com Please remove the "_" when replying via email |

Son of a gun! I just got a D5 XL yesterday, same color head, too.
There is a lever behind the lens that releases the bellows. Rack it out and try again. Now I have a question - set up for 4x5 with a 150mm lens, an 8x10 inch projection is right to the edge of the board with no way to properly lay an easle flat. Could it be that I don't have the standard board? |
