Using Jobo Tank w/ Hand Agitation?
Since getting hooked on LF, I have done all color except
for a few Polaroids. I'm thinking about playing with real B&W film, and I'll need to process my own film. I have done 4x5 using frames with dip and dunk tanks, but I don't have a darkroom in this house nor much desire to build another; I'll be scanning the negs and printing digitally. So, I'm planning to load a daylight tank in a changing bag and then process. The question is, will a Jobo tank give good results if used with inversion agitation? Or will it leak all the developer out if inverted? Other tank suggestions would be gladly considered as well. Thanks. |

I invert the tank every time I use the Jobo to process film, basically using the lift to rock the drum up and down several times for a few moments per minute. It insures that the film is evenly coated with chemistry. The short anwser is yes it does. You don't want to completely tip the drum to where it empties the chemistry, but you can raise it almost all the way without dumping chemistry. -- LF Website @ http://members.verizon.net/~gregoryblank "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."--Theodore Roosevelt, May 7, 1918 |

Thanks. If you get the tanks with a red cap not the cog then sure. OTOH it's ALOT of developer in that mode. IIRC 1.5 litres for the smallest tank that can take a 4x5 reel. At most that's six sheets. It's also 1.5 litres with one sheet. Now with the slightly bigger tank you can use the tank on a motor. http://www.jobo-usa.com/faq/drums_on_motorbase.htm Like this you can get away with 600ml of chemicals for up to 12 sheets. I think you'd quickly find this is a nicer setup then trying to manually invert the tank. It's also cheaper in terms of chemicals used. Or if you want you can go the other way and use highly diluted chemicals. The motor will handle fairly hefty amounts of chemicals. Nick |

I recommend the HP Combiplan tank.

Thanks. Try finding one of the old mini Cibachrome drums from about 1975 (?). I bought one with the Ciba trial kit when visiting Dallas, and it now has a new lease of life when I process my 5x4s. It takes 25ml per sheet, and takes one sheet comfortably. I've tried two sheets and it's slightly too small - overlap takes place. -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK http://www.megalith.freeserve.co.uk/oddimage.htm |
