For Christ's sake the only lighting a pro photographer needs is the Larry Thong LightBottle. It's the best accessory for weddings. Look Rita, we don't care what you do with your marital aids. We're talkin' photography here... Maybe where you live you get to take a portable studio down into the church but here in Australia, what you can't carry, you ain't got. I once used a small Metz camera flash with a diffuser as a fill light. I used a GN 50 flash and Nissen slave firing into a 20" silver or gold reflector. I made a handle for the slave and reflector from a paint roller poll which my assistant held above my head for smooth skinned people or below my waist for those with a multi chin problem. The slave fired into the diffuser to spread the light. The camera flash to help remove wrinkle shadows. In 1993 I thought that was great. Well lit scenes with virtually no shadows. Today I use a D3 Nikon and take full advantage of its high ISO capabilities and use natural light or at worst, a 36" reflector to throw light to the subject. I may use a flash directed to the reflector. Why different? Evolution. I now like the shadows and highlights of natural lighting. I now believe you can't beat God for light. A 5D can use ISO 1600 OK as well as pull up 2 stops from the shadows. Why not try doing that? Grain (noise) is not your enemy. It is a tool - part of creativity you can use to good effect. Just kill the colour and you can charge extra for a '60's style photograph. Nothing wrong with shadows. They are everywhere in real life. Why not in your 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional subject? A lot of stuff here shot with a 5D and 580 Speedlite using a white paper bag or piece of tracing paper for a diffuser. http://www.weddingsnportraits.com.au...olio/weddings/ You might also like to sacrifice some flash power and use the built in diffuser to spread the light around. Might drain your batteries quickly but it worked sometimes. |
