I've been using the Epson 850Z since 2000, but I've never actually
installed the software it came with. It doesn't seem to offer
anything of any value, that I can see. And hence no use for the
cables, either. I read the compact flash card with a flash reader,
rather than connecting the camera to the computer; this saves battery
power, and puts the camera less at risk (I don't have to have it
sitting around balanced precariously on the heaps around the computer
while transferring; your physical desktop may vary).

You may be in for a hard time. Epson is VERY hit and miss about upgrades for
their cameras printers and scanners. Basically they'd like you to buy a new
device if you upgrade.
