Default Top 5 Advanced Digital Cameras

These cameras typically offer more manual controls and more powerful
features than point-and-shoot models. Ratings and rankings are
provided by PC WORLD.

Thanks for the link, but sometimes I wonder about these kinds of reviews.
The number 2 camera (Samsung) has 15 X zoom but no IS. I would not even
consider it.

Buyers really need to do more homework than just rely on reviews from
sources like PC World.

Much better ... no sense giving the hits to a third party.

True, but it's better to go there directly than through some other site
trying to get ad clicks.

What a bunch of bunk! Since when does a reviewer list optical zoom for an
SLR? Especially when it doesn't even list the lens tested.

PC World is not an authority on personal computers, either ... but that's
just my opinion.

That web page is a brief listing of five cameras, but the tested
lenses *are* listed. It apparently only lists the zoom range
translated into the 35mm FF equivalent focal lengths. For instance,
the XTi specifies the lens as being 28.8mm to 88mm, but if you
follow the link to the review the lens is identified as having an
18mm - 55mm actual focal length range. Not a great description, but
this *is* the lens that was used. Multiply 18 and 55 by Canon's
APC-C multiply ratio (1.6) and you get 28.8mm and 88mm. The test
report page provides a better description next to Lens Model,
showing that the lens was actually the Canon EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6.

Same thing for the Nikon D80 which only shows 27mm and 202.5mm on
the summary page, but lists "Nikkor AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm"
for the Lens Model on the test report page. Multiply these focal
lengths by Nikon's APS-C lens multiplier (1.5) and you get the 27mm
and 202.5mm values reported in the summary.

That said, it's a computer magazine after all, and considering
that PC World doesn't specialize in cameras, they did a creditable
job with their limited camera reviews.
