Fuji S602z "zoom error".
I've had this Fuji camera for about 11 months and have shot a lot of
pictures with it. I've found it pretty good, apart from the focussing in poor light which is poor. However on holidays a week ago the zoom refused to go back in. A Zoom Error message appeared and nothing would correct it. I hadn't dropped it or anything and it's gone off for repair. Anyone else had this problem? |

I had a Fuji 6900z where the lens wouldn't extend outwards, Cost me £80 to get it repaired, and it was away for 6 weeks. I wasn't impressed with the camera, low light focussing was useless in auto or manual modes. In good light it took good pics though. ejb |

However, as I use it for astronomy, I can certainly agree with the low light focus problem, but using it with a dedicated eyepiece, I have solved that problem. I also use a lens adaptor, 55-52mm, which is permanently attached to the cam, thus also acting as a barrel protector.... Takes up a bit more room in the carry case, but at least I know the barrel is totally protected against accidental knocks - almost certainly the cause of the fault described.... As for image quality - I have already two 2nd and one 3rd place in local photo shoot comps. So I like it :-) Good Luck with the fault, hope the warranty covers it ! DH |

Apologies for being a bit dim, but I noticed that the 602 seems to be the choice of a lot of astronomers - why? I would have thought better performing cameras would have been more useful and that the low light focussing and evf an issue? Presumably some of the better features outweigh the worse. |

There are better performing cameras there, no doubt, but the 602 is good
enough for wedding photography. It really is. I only shoot weddings for friends or relatives as presents but I've shot the last few on 602 plus film. The 602 shots have been just as popular as the film shots and I've enlarged them to A4 size. |

The MAIN feature which attracts me as an astronomer is the 55mm lens thread, which means I can attach the camera (albeit with a little extra expense) directly to the eyepiece of the scope. That and the 1600 ISO at 1MP clinched it for me at any rate :-) Also : Microdrive to record up to 6 minutes of 640x480 vid, remote shutter release cable and tripod mount centered on lens (may sound insignificant, but its a right budder trying to line up the cam if this is off centre !!) hth DH |
