Default Nikon D100 owners

I am considering purchasing a Nikon D100.

and I was just wondering what you(a Nikon D100) owner thinks of it.

As well as any advice as to what extras I will need to get the best out of
it.

Will I need extra batterys and which ones and how long have you found you
batteries to be lasting.

Regards

Steve

Partly, getting the best out of the camera will involve being sure you
have a good lens on it. If you do much indoor shooting, you might want
the recommended external flash for the camera. (SB-85???)

Can I use my SB-24 with the D-100?

Art, I'm pretty sure you can use the SB-24, but I think you will not
be able to use TTL flash mode. Before getting the SB-85 I used an
earlier Nikon flash in the automatic flash mode where the flash unit
senses the light reflected back from the subject with its own sensor
-- not TTL. That seemed to work OK.

Good enough. Thanks.

Battery life is a strong point for the Nikon D100. I get 300 or more
photos with mine set at jPG , large, fine and still have ample charge. I
have one spare but have only resorted to it on one three day trip to the
lava flows on the Big Island.

As for battery life, it is incredibly good. I'll admit I don't use my
D100 very often, but, with other cameras I'm used to the NiCad and
NiMh batteries going flat on the shelf. I bought my dslr back in
October and the battery was charged once after the original charge.
This weekend, I was using it heavily and it was the first time I've
seen the battery condition indicator show less than full charge. I
have bought a second battery and had recharged it the week before. I
think you'll find one spare to be all you need.

Unlike most digital cams, the onboard flash, while not a super
blaster, is elevated enough above the lens plane so redeye is no
problem. With my Coolpix 990, redeye correction was a required
operation. With the D100 I've never needed it.

I don't hold them up as examples of good photography, but the pictures
at http://www.hamfest.org (then select Photo Gallery) were all lmade
this weekend with my D100 at iso 1000 indoors. Flash was used only to
fill in the shadow under a billed cap or hat brim.

The mother load of D100 users can be found in the Yahoo group Nikon
D100. Join it and enjoy. If you need any info, that is the place to
look for it.

I have owned a D100 from its initial release date in North America and
love it.

I can't believe I wrote "mother load" instead of "mother lode".
