Best RAW processing software?
I prefer to shoot RAW for the simple reason that it conserves the maxiumum dynamic range of the image. Unfortunately, it also increases the workload afterwards, in particular, getting the colors correct for printing at the lab. Then next thing is that after shooting 20 or 50 or 100 images, that doing the corrections on all of them is very tedious. So I need a software package that will apply the same correction over a collection of images. I have found out that CaptureOne PRO supports the RAW files from my camera, however it is quite expensive at EUR$499 (or US$499 which makes the choice a tad less expensive). CaptureOne LE is only EUR$99. From their website, regarding "LE" version: "All image settings can easily and instantly be applied to all image files." Does this mean that for a set of images, I correct one and then apply to all the others in a batch mode? (There is a free trial, so I'll try it, but comments appreciated). Major differences between the pro version and the LE version? Other s/w to do similar work? I really like photoshop. I go through them, opening partially to change
settings then hold the control key to update the settings without actually opening the file. Then select the next several similar shots to apply those settings with a right-click. Once they're adjusted I'll select all and batch them to jpegs with a right-click. That takes a few minutes but each raw adjustment is quick. You could have a look at Rawshooter from Pixmantec -
http://www.pixmantec.com/. You can batch convert from both the Premium 2006 and the Essentials 2005 versions. The latter is free while the premium version is $99 (though there is a special offer until 31 Dec of $79). Brian (not connected with Pixmantec in any way other than as a user of the free version who is considering upgrading) |

Have you tried RAW Shooter Essentials or Premium?
http://www.pixmantec.com/ Cut and paste image settings or subset of settings. I've been very happy with it. Jim |

I like it enough that I'll probably upgrade to the paid version, which is still fairly inexpensive by comparison. You could also look at the trial version of Silkypix, which is liked by
those who find it. They work like beavers and it is updated almost weekly at no cost, unlike some, Don http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/ Alan Browne wrote: I prefer to shoot RAW for the simple reason that it conserves the maxiumum dynamic range of the image.
