Default KODAK 5055 CSY

I found some out B&W film, it says KODAK 5055 CSY on the negative, I
have googled and searched the kodak site and *cannot* find out what's
the formal name or any other information on the film. There were two
VERY odd things about it, it came in 21 exposures, and the negatives
were *very* opaque, almost a combination of positive/negative it's hard
to explain but they printed fine? If anyone knows what this is my photo
teacher and I are very interested to know.

Thanks,

Jeff

A little more info please. When you say "21 exposures" do you mean that you
have the original camera cartridge and it says 21 exp or that you have one
piece of film 21 exposures long? Is the film edge printed like a still
camera film with frame numbers every 36mm and the film type etc.?

Are there any other edge markings? On motion picture film, for instance,
Kodak prints "Kodak" + xxxx where xxxx identifies the product *and*
"Eastman" + xxxx where xxxx identifies the emulsion. A given emulsion can
appear in different product sizes & lengths, each of which is a separate
product. Once the product is off the market you'll have a hard time
identifying it, but you may still be able to find information about the
emulsion.

It didn't say Eastman anywhere on it. It literally said 21 exposures,
I'm almost positive that was the number, we threw the roll out
unfortunately because naturally it was pretty mangled. It was yellow I
believe. I don't have it sitting in front of me.

Oh, well then, never mind, guess it wasn't important. So why'd you ask?

Here what I can say about this film if it's the same. In 1995 I used a Kodak film #5055 CSY, B&W 35mm film and the name was COSMOS. It came in 12 exposures and the speed was 400. I developed it in Rodinal 1:25 for 7 min at 24°C. The negative was very nice with well balanced contrasts a bit grainy but not more than a Tri-X 400.
This product appeared on the shelves just on few occasions in 1995 – 96 or so.
May be are we taking about the same product ?

Andrew
