They are mobile computers...

so is a smartphone.

No...

a smartphone absolutely is a computer, some of which are more
capable
than what sits on people's desks.

no they aren't unless you're main use of ya putter is
facetime...
:-ppp

'your', and the main use of a putter is on the green.

i can distinguish between your and you're but do like other on this
group commit typos. putter is common language for computer and you
know
it... whooosh! :-ppp

You have to laugh at someone who never capitalizes the first letter of
a word that should be capitalized, but points out writing errors that
others make.

I would spell that nickname for a computer as "puter" or "'puter".

Thanks for the advice but that would depend on how you pronounce it
right? :-))

I always thought a ‘putter’ was what a golfer used to tap a golfball into
a hole on the green.

The context gives the word its meaning...

My kids used to spell like that, but they grew out of it.

Noted...

Whether or not a device is a computer has nothing to do with the use
you put it to.

sure it does.

a modern autofocus camera lens has a microprocessor and firmware (which
can be updated in some cases), but they are not considered to be a
computer by any stretch of the imagination.

Here is the nub of it "considered". "Considered" by who? Apparently by
you.

everyone other than you considers a camera lens to be a camera lens,
not a computer.

What a silly statement.

nothing silly about it.

Dedicated computers are embedded in all kinds of things ranging from
GPS to engine management systems.

they're not what is considered to be 'a computer'.

Not so considered by whom?

everyone.

Whoever it is hasn't studied them very
much.

nonsense.

do you consider a tv remote control to be a computer because there is a
microprocessor in there?

Many of them have got a memory, they all have an input, a processor,
an output. What's not to like?

like it all you want, but it's not what people consider to be 'a
computer'.

how well does photoshop run on your remote control?

by your definition, someone with a medical implant is a computer.

the rest of your rubbish snipped.

What on earth makes you think I think a camera lens is a computer? How
on earth can you justify such a silly statement?

Dedicated computers are embedded in all kinds of things ranging from

Have you checked?

Whoever it is hasn't studied them very

"consider" once again.

how well does photoshop run on your remote control?

About as well as Photoshop can process CATSCAN data.

About as well as as an iMac can process the data output of the Large
Hadron Collider. https://home.cern/about/computing

by your definition, someone with a medical implant is a computer.

Nope.

You are trying to put words in my mouth.

the rest of your rubbish snipped.

Then an oil refinery is a computer.

So too is
