None of which we actually want done. hundreds of millions of people disagree. google photos is vastly more popular than picasa ever was. It is more popular than Picasa ever was, because Google Photos is the only choice those wrapped up in the Google World have. For those folks who only function within the Google universe, their choice has been narrowed down to Google Photos. They knew nothing but Picasa, and now they have been led to Google Photos, and would not even think that a better solution might exist outside of Google. Those such as Bev were comfortable with Picasa, and not so much with Google Photos regardless of how much Google, and you say G-P is better than Picasa. So those hundreds of millions of people might be using Google Photos because that is the only option Google has given them within the Google Universe, and they might not necessarily disagree with Bev. -- Regards, Savageduck |

Hundreds of millions of people have different priorities, and learning how to actually configure and use all the software at their disposal seems to be fairly low on the list.. it sounds like it's you who has learning how to use google photos low on the list, or more accurately, not on the list at all. hundreds of millions of people not only learned how to use google photos (which is very easy), but they're also thrilled with its capabilities and are doing things you can't even begin to imagine being possible. google photos is vastly more popular than picasa ever was. So is Internet Explorer. So? that's an entirely different product so it's an invalid comparison, and chrome is the most popular browser anyway. I like it because it allows simple editing. I don't want to do complex editing; if I do I can probably wrestle GIMP into shape, but the photos I take now just aren't worth the effort. Fortunately the Picasa program still works, although it can't blow up photos size-wise -- I could never figure out why it didn't offer that feature. XV does, but it doesn't save the exif data :-( if simple editing is all you want, there are *numerous* options, including google photos: https://cdn0.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/b.../11/Sunset-lig ht-sliders.png photoshop elements is among the best of the bunch. it's very inexpensive, *extremely* capable and easy to learn with its wizards. gimp is complete garbage. don't even waste your time. it still lacks features photoshop had 20 years ago and is *significantly* slower on the same hardware too (as in 10x slower, or more). |

"Easy" is irrelevant. "Capable" is what counts, and GP is incapable in the areas that are important to me. YMMV. what areas might that be? maybe if you spent more time describing what you want to actually do rather than complain about big bad google, people could offer useful suggestions. the more specific you are the better the suggestions will be. from what you've said so far, you want to do basic editing and organizing. google photos does that (and more). there are other options too. and easy is *not* irrelevant at all. if a product is difficult to use, then its full capabilities will likely go unused. ease of use is a feature, one which makes people more productive. Link to the survey that determined that hundreds of millions of people found Google Photos easy to use and are thrilled with its capabilities. What airline did you use in conducting the survey? :-) I'm about to killfile nospam. The temptation to reply is difficult to resist. That's one of the things that killed -- or at least critically wounded -- usenet. what killed usenet are web forums, which are more capable than usenet could ever dream of, without requiring votes to create a new newsgroup. you did say capable is what counts. |
