Nice shot, but disconcerting because he's driving clockwise on a race
track. Having grown up in Indianapolis, I know that race cars go
around counterclockwise.

BTW: here is a bit more information about this particular Studebaker:

"This 1932 Studebaker Indy Car is one of five factory team cars which
raced in 1932 and 1933. Driven in the 1932 Race by Pete Kreis, running
7th at 450 miles when a tire blew. It finished 12th while another team
car finished 3rd. The engine is a 336 cubic-inch Straight 8 Studebaker
President rated at 200 horsepower. Top speed is over 140 mph, which it
accomplished in 1932."

"Top speeds were about 120-130 mph" which makes me wonder about the
140 mph. Certainly there was enough power but the gearing would have
to be changed.

Well they were refering to the 1931 car in the article. So there could
have been some tuning upgrades for 1932.

Certainly there was enough power but the gearing would have
to be changed.

....and that might well have been the case.
