I'm not that worried about the guarentee. I am, however, worried about the
turn around time on a CLA and/or the mess I may make if the lens starts
shooting springs all over. Thus, has anyone done it and what do I need to
be aware of if I do take it apart?

Frankly, the prospect of a CLA every 2 months is a little troublesome long
term.

Just send it back. It's not all that great a lens. Save your money - buy
an L lens.

Anybody do a home disassembly and cleaning of this lens. I have a nasty
white hair on the outside of the second element and some dead curled-up
creepy crawly on the inside of the second rear element. I'm not impressed
with the dust seals on this lens so far as it is only 2 months old

tomorrow;
but the optics are great.

Jim (why isn't there a cleaning port here?) Kramer

I apparently made a mistake in asking what I assumed was a simple 35mm
equipment question to this group. You all have my deepest and sincerest
apologies for troubling you all with an on topic post. My mistake, I'll try
not to do it again.

You can ask any question you want. There is no guarantee that somebody can
answer it. Questions on this ng regarding the dismantling of lenses typically
draw a "don't do it" reply. We are, in the main, photographers, not camera and
lens repair people.

More importantly, it would be irresponsible to advise you to go ahead and take
apart a lens, generally, and specifically if it is under warranty at this time
.... it certainly would no longer be so after the first turn of a screw.

Either take the lens back for repair under warranty (and dust and bugs getting
in might not count) or to somebody who really knows what it is about.

Cheers,
Alan

Never heard of a 'tongue-in-cheek' comment? Lighten up; it was in jest.

Also, this was something I read at least 30 years ago on the front of a
large main-frame computer at one of the installations I was working
at........It is an old joke......

Ah! - I remember now.....This is what we used to call, "Katzenjammer kids
humor". It was popularized by the cartoonist back in the 30's who drew the
Katzenjammer kids comic strip........
