Dsc W7 and portability
Recently purchased a W7 and extremely pleased. Was coming from a DSC
S85 my first digital. The 85 is (was) an a tremendously rugged camera I found despite press to the contrary. Carried it on many a trip and for the most part in the bottom of an unpadded a fanny pack. Took many bumps etc and is still going strong. Got a bit tired of its size (and never really used all of its capabilities I feel). Finally got this classic looking little aluminum brick and in the W7 I have a lot of my needs answered. Its pocketable and palmable, tremendous LCD screen. Some control has been given up but to a large degree I did not use it all in my S85. I really enjoy being able to pocket it and walk. Got a 1 gb card extra set of batts and a "super" teleconverter and it all fits into a small kit. On trip or vacation (of durations of say 10 days or so) it runs along and calls little attention to itself l (maybe a charge). I like to think I take a lot of pics, I'm not a pro by any measure but in a trip of that duration I might take 2 to 3 hundred pics. Suits me well. I'm keeping my S85 as its existing capabilites are most useful and on occasion it will still travel with me although I'm sure it will spend a bit more time in the room. It goes without saying portability sure has its fine points. One has to ask how much smaller can these camera's be taken until the exceed the ability of human ergonomics? Doc |
