Digitalcamera - Papierabzüge Formatprobleme
Hallo

Gruß Sascha Via Google Language Tools: Hello Olympus digital camera have 790 SW and am also very happy with it. After I now have 2 x certain photos I on the PC plays, and with T-Online Photo Service have developed software leave, I got the pictures always in the 10x13 format, 5cm instead ordered 10x15cm photos as the paper back. Since I am on my camera nothing regarding the appropriate aspect ratio / Format may recruit (Olympus hotline), it was explained to me the following: "In the analog formulation has a miniature negative an aspect ratio of 2:3. The result is a picture format for example, 10 x 15 cm. All digital cameras have because of the preset aspect ratio of 3:4. The result is a picture format for example, 10 x 13.5 cm. The image height (eg 10 cm) is determined, the picture is variable length. Digital photography offers a variety of ways, your Image file to the format you want to edit. We recommend you for future orders on your digital camera analog 2:3 aspect ratio (eg 10 x 15 cm) or switch already Photos recorded in 3:4 aspect ratio (eg 10 x 13.5 cm) after with our current software. " As I said neither Olympus nor T-Online software, I found what (or found, but still set to get the wrong format), so my question: What can / should I do to make my digital images in 10x15cm format as the paper get back, somebody knows any trick / settings or a software (preferably freeware) to the format then really correct aspect ratio converter? Thanks for any tip! Greeting Sascha |

Keine Ahnung!

That is wrong. There are several different common aspect ratios for digital cameras, 3x4 is only one of them. That's wrong, too. The heigth of a a digital (or any) photo is not predetermined. As has been discussed many, many times you cannot fit a square plug into a round hole. Your options a - letterboxing: adding black bars at the top and bottom (or resp. left and right) to fill that part of the paper, where the picture doesn't reach - cropping: removing parts of the picture on the left and right (or resp top and bottom) where the picture extends beyond the paper - stretching: stretching the picture vertically (resp. horizontally) until it fill the available paper. Of course each of these methods has it's drawbacks: - for letterboxing you get the whole picture, but also ugly black bars. - for cropping parts of the picture are missing - for stretching you distort the picture, making aunt Margret look like a fat goose (or resp a skinny pole). Therefore the best choice is to print with the same aspect ratio as the photo was taken. And that seem to be exactly what your printing service is doing. _I_ would be happy about how they are handling things, it's the most sensible approach. If you absolutely want to print in a different aspect ratio, then you should preprocess the photos and submit them in the desired aspect ratio. Any picture editing software (even something as primitive as MS Paint) will allow you to cut&paste the desired portions onto a canvas of the desired aspect ratio. jue |

says... That is wrong. There are several different common aspect ratios for digital cameras, 3x4 is only one of them. It's the most commonly used format in non-DLSRs. There are very, very few non-DLSRs which don't have a 4:3 ratio. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 8080, E3X0, E4X0, E5X0 and E3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

I think that with wide-screen TV now more common, you will find the majority of the new cameras offering some form of "HD" or "wide-screen" format. Of course, 4:3 for compacts and 3:2 for DSLRs will continue to be the mainstay. Cheers, David |

Basically just has something similar to an APS camera's "panorama mode". Its native seems to be a little under 3:2. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikonp5100/ Is a 4:3 camera which offers in camera cropping to get 16:9. -- -- --John to email, dial "usenet" and validate (was jclarke at eye bee em dot net) |
