PBS Show This Sunday 02/25: At Close Range With National Geographic

The other problem with digital is that there is no surefire way to store the images. The only way to be absolutely certain you'll be able to view an image in twenty years or more is to transfer it to paper or film." And if you transfer the image to paper, you are limited to the resolution of the print. SW |

Included: comments from National Geographic magazine editors. They did a Yellowstone nature photography show a while back. I notice those pivoting camera mounts are being used more and more for wildlife. This kind of arrangement (curved camera holder on a tripod that allows fast up down and side to side movement) has been around for ages for things like small telescopes. I wonder why it took till now to become popular in photography, particularly telephotography? Last show I went to, Nikon had a bank of them fixed up with cameras and telephotos. Ever hear of Wimberly? They aren't new... -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |

Definitely designed for photography. -- -- r.p.e.35mm user resource: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpe35mmur.htm -- r.p.d.slr-systems: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpdslrsysur.htm -- [SI] gallery & rulz: http://www.pbase.com/shootin -- e-meil: Remove FreeLunch. |

Scott Magazine workflows are now largely digital and have been for a few years. If you shoot for a monthly publication, editors want digital. If you are a freelancer, you have to produce the standard deliverable to get work. Do you really think film enthusiasts are unaware of the fact that the photography world has gone digital, both professionals and snapshooters? Film is now a niche in both the professional and amateur arenas. You can capture lousy or great images with either. If Joel Sartore had been using digital when the PBS show about him was produced, very little about the show would have changed. The show wasn't about gear, but about a photographer and his work. SW |

Despite this tremendous 'handicap,' he produces some of the best photographs I've ever seen. There is no raving or bragging about this 'fabulous!' lens or that 'totally digital' body. Instead he goes out and works his ass off. Wow, what a concept. http://www.joelsartore.com/ -Greg You need to keep up with the times http://www.joelsartore.com/adventure/faq.php#gear He is all digital now. Scott Oh, CRAP! Wel, at least he has the good sense to use a TOTALLY DIGITAL NIKON!!!! |

Wel, at least he has the good sense to use a TOTALLY DIGITAL NIKON!!!! Do you think his decision to stick with Nikon might be based, just a little bit, on his extensive collection of Nikon glass? I know that if I considered a Nikon 400 mm f/2.8 AF-S lens and a Nikon 600 mm f/4 AF-S lens part of my "typical setup", Nikon could make the absolute WORST DSLR on the market and I wouldn't switch to something better.
