Hi, in an earlier post,I asked about focusing screens for the Mamiya

C330s.
I was advised to spend the $$$ and get a Beattie or a Maxwell screen.

After
getting taken for $50.00 on ebay for a "so-called" Beattie screen, I've
decided to spend the $$ for a good screen.
I'd like to hear your opinions on each screen. I should add that I just
added a Kiev NC-2 45 degree prism to my C330s. Thanks in advance for all
your help. More info is good info, and the advice I get here really helps.

I am not familiar with the Maxwell screen, but I have always felt the
Beattie screens are over-rated. They appear very gritty and obtaining
optimum focus is not always easy. But they are generally brighter
than standard screens for the Mamiya TLRs.

Neither am I - ask Stacy for the pros and cons price/brightness,
parallax lines, etc..

Ever tried using the MAC oem screens during a dark reception? You need all
the brightness you can get on these cameras.. and even then focusing can be
tough. Overrated? Not for my 40++ y.o. eyes. 'Gritty'? Personally I think
all GG screens are gritty; it think it's a characteristic of fresnels.

But they are generally brighter than standard screens for the Mamiya
TLRs.
Yeah, generally...? They are brighter, period, by at least 2 stops (per my
105DS lens.)

The advantage of the Maxwell screens is that Bill will set you up with a
perfect screen for your application. You tell him the focal length lenses
you use most and what type of finder and he'll suggest a certain focal
length screen and explain why. I've never heard anyone say they were
disappointed with a Maxwell screen and every camera I use has one of his
screens in it.

Any of the other bright screens, even the latest 'blad acutemat-D screens,
just aren't as good. Most sacrifice contrast for brightness which makes
them hard to focus, the Maxwell screens don't and work great even in
stopdown mode. The only downside is Bill likes to talk so make sure you're
using something that is cheap to talk on! :-) See contact info below.
