Diesel Ranger?

I own a 94 extended cab 4x4 Ranger, I wouldn't call it truck and neither
would my insurance company.

Ah, the nuances of international variations on speech.

Under ordinary circumstances I wouldn't call it a truck either. Over here
it is called a bakkie, but seeing as this is an international forum, I
thought I would extend some courstesy to the people who wouldn't know what
the **** a "bakkie" is and call it a truck. Pick-up truck, if you prefer.

We Dutch think "bakkie" sounds cute :-)

I guess that's what the Aussies call a "ute" then. My American step-mother
calls my Range Rover a "truck" - which no one here would ever say.

I suspect that your mother in law was trying to get a rise out of you. If
it isn't a car, it must be a truck. In all fairness to her, if she wasn't
just ribbing you, many sport-utes (American term) are truck based, and many
of those that aren't, pretend they are.

Yet the whole genre is really just copying the Range Rover ;-)

Well that *is* where the term originated from - the Dutch immigrants to
SA. I think it translates to "container" in English.
