Default HP 7660/7960 Are they the best printers for B/W?

Would appreciate any user feedback on above to be used for 10" x 8" B/W pics
only on best available gloss paper. Particularly interested in the use of
the #59 (?)
cartridge.
Are the later Epson R800 or Canon i860 printers the possible equal for this
one
task? Image tonal quality paramount from good quality Tiff scans of 4x5"
negs.
Thanks
