Hiking - Digital Camera - What Excellent Advice!

Thanks very much to everyone who replied to my question: What camera to buy
for hiking and backpacking but also as a P&S?

After reading everyone's comments I whipped up to Future Shop (where I have
a gift certificate) and had a good look at the Canon S1. It has all the
features I want ------ except when you look at the optics.

The salesman (being a good salesman) then suggested I look at a Sony F828
which appears to have everything I want -------except it costs $$$$.

So I *think* I'm going to get the Canon S1 but I definitely have to worry
and fret about it some more.
