Default Batteries for the Minolta Dynax 800si

I bought a used VC700 vertical control grip for this camera. It accepts
either a 2CR5 lithium or a set of AA batteries. Which types are suitable for
the latter: Alkaline, NiCd, NiMH? Which of these performs best?
TIA

Alkaline.

NiCd, NiMH give too low a voltage.

In the manual for my VC-9 grip for the Maxxum 9, they say:
"AA lithium batteries cannot be used."
without specifying the reason.

[It is speculated by some that the start 'surge' of such
batteries might give a too high voltage for the camera resulting
in damage. I don't care to experiment and find out.
(Lithium CR123A and 2CR5 are okay). ]

Note that the same manual suggests that AA NiCd's will work, but
I've not tried it as I've abandoned NiCd's forever.

Cheers,
Alan
