Canon 5D2 question
The other day I was out shooting with a fairly low battery supply.
After having read the manual, I supposed that the display would blink when it got low enough to be problematic. It did not. Instead, Live View quit, and shortly afterward the camera shut down displaying ERR with no number. So I shut it off, finished the shoot with another body, and took it home to recharge the batteries (in a battery grip there are two...). After recharging the batteries to the green light level, I reinstalled them and the camera came alive with no apparent problems. But then, I discovered that every time I turned the camera off, the Live View setting would revert to default (disabled), which now means I have to re-enable it every time I turn the camera on. After reading the manual several times, looking in several places, I found nothing about settings reverting to default after battery discharge. So, the question: Has this happened to any other 5D2 user? Specifically, 1) the camera turning off before the battery is out of charge according to the indicator, and 2) the Live View setting being disabled after every camera shut-off, requiring resetting to "enabled" every time the camera is used? Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here? Longfellow |

Canon 5D2 question

Most SLR users will think of live view as being a special purpose function, and so want the camera to default to normal viewing. Is pushing one button once all that hard??? -- David J. Is pushing one button once all that hard??? Nah, he probably means the feature defaults to the button being totally disabled. He's probably having to climb into menu settings 2 È Live view where you may take your pick of disabled, stills only and stills and movie and pushing it off disabled every time the camera is switched back on. FWIW I /think/ I got an unnumbered 'ERR' on mine once, but I don't think it was exhausted battery. And live view comes back how I left it. I think I did it by yanking the CF card while it was catching up putting a movie on it. PS New firmware rumoured any day now. Movie improvements mostly. 24 25 and 29.97 fps and manual audio levels. He's probably having to climb into menu settings 2 È Live view where you may take your pick of disabled, stills only and stills and movie and pushing it off disabled every time the camera is switched back on. Sounds painful. I can barely even find that menu setting. Here's the latest firmware press release that you were probably referring to. The firmware is not up on the Canon site yet, though. http://www.dpreview.com/news/1003/10...iifirmware.asp -- David J. Littleboy Tokyo, Japan |
