Default Stolen D300 shots salvaged.

Even though I lost the D300 I had a redundant backup system, so I have
been able to salvage most of the shots from my African trip.
It is good to be home. The return trip via Amsterdam, with bad European
and East coast weather was a nightmare. Each leg of the return was met
with a delay. I had a 39 hour day from Cape Town to SFO.

African Wild dogs, fast moving, well camouflaged, and tough to shoot.

More cheetah,
http://homepage.mac.com/lco/Sites/Ch...-H1/index.html

and Southern Masked Weaver, totally engaged in nest building.
http://homepage.mac.com/lco/Sites/Weaver/index.html

Just a taste from a travelling amateur. I will be replacing the stolen
D300 with a D300s.

And why the **** are you cross-posting over 3 newsgroups you clueless
attention seeking tosspot. Are you sure you haven't missed out a few like
weather, wild animals, and tourism? Cross-posting ****s up newsgroup
hierarchies and magnifies assholes like the P&S troll.

BTW Chuck, as I have pointed out before, this OP is entirely
appropriate as it deals with photography, the equipment, and a digital
slr system. Cross posting is not absolutely verboten if the subject is
group apprpriate. In the case of this OP it is.
The P&S troll lurks in these groups and will make his presence known
regardless of what any of us do. You taking on the role of guardian of
the photo NGs is not going to make him go away.

....and you resorting to infantile insults is every bit as annoying, and
a statement of your state of mind as any intrusion of "the troll."

If you choose to ignore the thread, so be it.

Thank you for sharing. You have many nice memories of your trip. I think you
made a good choice in a new camera.
Now tell the truth, was the D300 really stolen, or is that what you told
your wife?G

It's too high level to really justify being cross-posted. Just because it
mentions a particular thing doesn't make it appropriate. It's just a fact
that cross-posting like this ****s up newsgroup hierarchies and magnifies
trolling. This can and has destroyed newsgroups in the past.

Don't alter my follow-ups without a good reason, and doing it without
notification is against convention and rude. You're going to do whatever you
want regardless so before we get into that ego game I'll point out this
isn't an issue of netcopping but self-discovery.

I could've wanred you before you went to Joberg but didn't as, I reckoned,
you'd bitch and some of the other guys would accuse me of being a killjoy.
You got your stuff stolen. Hey, ho. There's a similar cause and effect cycle
with newsgroup posting *and* photography.

If you're right, you're wrong. Certainty is an illusion.

**** I hate net cops, all puffed up on their own self importance.
I find the best solution is to just bin them and that way, even if they do
remove various groups from the headers it doesn't matter, because you never
see their infantile ramblings about some long dead conventions.
And it is even more odious when they complain about posts that generally fit
the bill of all the groups posted.
FU set to a group full of nutters :-)

Nope, I think in this case the backup system *wasn't* redundant.

Well it worked.
I lost the 16GB CF.
....but I made a daily backup to my Colorspace UDMA, an outboard FW800
HD, and a Lightroom conversion to DNG on my laptop. So that was a
triple redundant backup.
