Default arca-swiss repair

My Arca-Swiss b1 ball head (bought new in Dec 2002) has recently
started misbehaving.
The ball no longer frees properly unless I push down hard on the quick
release clamp.
Tried cleaning the ball but it didn't help.
Anyone know of a Arca-Swiss repair center in the UK?

Thanks but the documentation from Arca-Swiss and articles on the web
indicate that the ball should not have any kind of lubrication applied
under any circumstances. It should just be cleaned using alcohol.
"Attempts to lubricate the ball end up requiring complete dismantling
and cleaning of the head".

I don't think the problem is due to the ball itself but the mechanism
underneath that adjusts the friction. Winding back the friction control
knob no longer releases the ball properly. It's as if something in the
friction control mechanism is not allowing it to return to the fully
unlocked position.

According to earlier postings I've seen on other news groups this is a
fairly common problem with this head design. I've not seen a solution
other than getting it repaired by a specialist.
I have undone the six screws and removed the base of the head to have a
look inside but I couldn't figure out how to dismantle it further. I
didn't want to force anything in case it causes damage.

It's annoying because these heads are not cheap. I've only had it 3 1/2
years from new and it's only had light use. The head has always been
kept clean and in a bag. Arca-Swiss was supposed to be the Rolls-Royce
of ball heads and I have to say it was very smooth and I was pleased
with it untill this problem started. Apparently others have given up
with Arca-Swiss and now use the similar looking Acratech head.

Just a light coating of pure silicone grease will cure your ills.

Following the advice of the dealer I bought the head from I've just
shipped the head back to Arca in France.
I'm told that since its a known design/manufacturing problem Arca are
fixing them free of charge even if the warranty has expired.
