It does sound as if the guy isn't doing the update correctly, doesn't
it? Otherwise there would surely be dozens of complaints. But you
would hope that Sony's built-in firmware checked the update a little
more thoroughly before applying it....

Reads like the connection between the computer and camera is flawed, and/
or that the program that uploads the FW to the camera ain't compatible
with either or both. Merely guessing though...

If that's a significant percentage, there's clearly an issue to be
resolved. Could be in the firmware, the hardware, or even faulty
institutions.
