As a society we have a moral obligation for their care and no self-righteous 10% religious fire insurance policy is going to meet that obligation. To an impartial observer from afar, it appears that too many Americans believe that they have no such moral obligation. They deride moral obligations as "socialist" and are apoplectic with rage when anyone dares to suggest that such an obligation should exist. Yeah....Well, maybe after being told that they lived in a Capitalist society and had to take care of themselves all of their lives, they are a bit disturbed that now they have to take care of all the hangers-on when they should be enjoying their retirement. While enjoying assurances that they themselves will not have their own coverage dropped if they get too sick in their old age, or see their coverage cut off if they contract something expensive to treat. Anyone could, "contract something too expensive to treat", but the policy should outline what they will treat and what they won't treat. Unfortunately, I couldn't even get a copy of my policy from Stanford when I worked there, so I don't know what they will and what they won't treat. At any rate, the system is totally screwed up in my opinion, and Obamacare isn't going to help it. It is already more than 50% socialized, so there is no real competition, and the government is, as usual, unable to properly regulate, control, and administrate it. |
