Mail order places
I would like to buy the Canon EOS 20D. It seems the best prices are from
mail order houses, even though there is as much as a $500 difference for the same camera body between some places. Would some of you please comment on your experience when ordering from some of these places. Is the saving's worth it? Do these places live up to their word? Is the qualityof the product any different? What is the downside of buying via this method? Also, please indicated if you have had good experience from a mail order house not listed below. Below are some of the links and names of the more common mail order houses. Unique Photo http://www.uniquephoto.com/ Beach Camera http://beachcamera.com/ CCI Camera City Inc http://ccicameracity.com/ A & M Photo World http://amphotoworld.com/ Abe's of Maine http://abesofmaine.com/ Samy's Camera http://samys.com/ Broadway Photo http://bwayphoto.com/ J & K Cameras No Web site Digital Liquidators http://www.digitalliquidators.com/ Thanks John |

The most respected ones are www.bhphotovideo.com, www.adorama.com, and
www.samys.com. They have the lowest prices that actually refer to honest, available merchandise. Others may have similar prices, especially now that computer stores are selling cameras. Prices much lower than theirs generally indicate something fishy is going on, such as inflated shipping costs, compulsory purchase of accessory kits, or simple unavailability. |

Most of teh places you list are scam shops - and those that are not are
still dodgy. I've been dealing with Adorama for the past 15 plus years -- perhaps more like 18 years, time flies - and never had a problem. If a store is advertising more than a few dollars below Adorama's price there is probably something fishy going on. -- http://www.chapelhillnoir.com home of The Camera-ist's Manifesto The Improved Links Pages are at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/links/mlinks00.html A sample chapter from "Haight-Ashbury" is at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/writ/hait/hatitl.html "John" wrote in message ... I have found them to quite reliable. Other than the low price they list, they will match any advertised price. Since I had heard good things about them in the past, I was determined to order from them. After checking prices at various on-line sites such as Adorama, B&H, etc., I called them on their toll free number. They matched the lowest prices on each item ordered and added their own discount. The items were shipped the same day. I highly recommend them. BTW: If you recommend a buyer, they will pay a 1% bonus to the one who did the recommending. (If you care to ... Broadway Photo, A&M Photo, Digital Liquidators are the same outfit with different names trying to stay one jump ahead of the law. Abe's of Main is pretty bad. Samy's is pretty good. As suggested in the article, run each place through http://resellratings.com before you buy. In general, you will find that the further the price is below B&H or Adorama, the more likely you are to get screwed. HMc |

There are various things that they do, including high pressure sales to buy their overpriced accessories, not shipping everything that the manufacturer puts in the box, and then reselling these items piecemeal (ie, do you want a battery with that?). -- Michael Meissner email: http://www.the-meissners.org |
