Default Vanishing colors in inkjet printers?

Hi,

I used mainly black laserjet. Yesterday I tried a new inkjet printer and
I noticed something strange. I printed mostly black and white yet the
the ink levels of the colors are decreasing too. Is this a normal in
inkjet (HP) where you have to use both of them together or waste losing
the colors when only mainly black is used? Where does the color ink go?
Some kind of drain below?? Why can't they design inkjets such that only
the black ink would get lessen if the colors is rarely used?

IMHO, a much better solution for b/w printing is an inexpensive (sub
$100) laser printer. Your cost for consummables will be much less.

Mono color laser printers are good. The toners last much longer. But be
sure you get one that allows a toner that ends in an X rather than just
the A toners.

When you purchase a copier, they actually only fill the toner about 1/3
full. But when you get replacements, the A toners do not contain half as
much toner as the X toners do. The X toners cost a little more, but for
the price it reduces the cost of printing dramatically. For ink jet
refills be sure to get the XL at the end of the number - those also have
more ink in them than the regular ones.

Another thing to check on is if they have compatible refills. In the
past the compatibles were not recommended, but this has changed. If you
get into a good store brand, they are as reliable as the new ones.
Actually often times the new ones are now compatibles and you never new
it because they are still marked OEM.

I do not recommend the refilling of the ink by hand. This can cause
problems with the printers.
