I just took a close look at my monitor through a loupe. What appears to be
white area is actually blue, green and red dots....yet it appears white. Am
I imagining this?

No. Do a Google search and find out why

No, that is how color monitors work! It's called additive color.

For example, your monitor never emits yellow light. But when your eyes
receive red and green light mixed together, they perceive it as yellow.

Appropriate mixtures of red, green, and blue can simulate (not equal, but
simulate) all other hues.

Maybe this explains why all my favorite comic books from childhood are
actually composed of dots.

Yes. You are imagining it. In fact there are no colours on the monitor only
black light actually strikes it. If you see anything besides black, you have
serious eye problems or incapacitating mental issues..
