Canon EF-S lenses and 35mm Rebel 2000
Canon says the EF-S lenses can only be mounted on the Digital Rebel or EOS
20D because of "shorter backfocus". What does that mean? Reference: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...ode lid=10512 or http://tinyurl.com/426xv Has anyone tried sticking one of these on any 35mm Rebel model to see what it does? Will it even fit? Thx! -- Mark Lauter Photos, Ideas & Opinions http://www.marklauter.com |

It will not physically fit - the mount of the EF-S lens will hit the mirrorbox in a non-EFS body. The EF-S 18-55 lens mount can be modified to allow it to fit certain DSLR bodies**, but it is likely that the back of the lens will interfere with the mirror on full-frame bodies. ** I've modified an EF-S 18-55 lens and have used it on my D30 and 10D. Since the D30 and 10D have smaller mirrors (than a full-frame body), the lens mount does not interfere with the mirror. -Dave |

I have a 300D with the kit lens an and EOS 300 (Rebel 2000). I think that I tried the 18-55 on my EOS 300 and it wouldn't mount. I'd have to try again to make sure. You'll notice that on a EF-S lens, instead of having the traditional red dot to align the lens with the body, it has a white square. The 300D body has both the red dot EF lens mount index (that's how they call it in the user manual) and white square EF-S lens mount index. |

Specifically - it would hit the mirror of EF cameras. The mirror on the EF-S
models is smaller so the lens can go deeper into the body. This makes it easier to make a wide angle lens as it does not have to be fudged to fit in front of the mirror. -- http://www.chapelhillnoir.com home of The Camera-ist's Manifesto The Improved Links Pages are at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/links/mlinks00.html A sample chapter from "Haight-Ashbury" is at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/writ/hait/hatitl.html "Mark Lauter" wrote in message ...
