My iPhone and iPad are charged using a plug and cable combination.
Each uses a different cable with a different-size fitting that plugs
into the device. Both style cables use the same wall-plug device.

What is the reason for the two different fittings? Both are obtaining
and converting power from the same wall plug.

It seems to me that Apple is just doing the printer ink scam and
adding an extra product to sell when replacements are needed.

What nospam said.

You're just slightly unlucky in that you bought one of your iThings just
before they updated the connector.

The new connector should be around for about 10 years - possibly, even
probably, longer.

10 years is a long time in this industry.

lighting is very forward thinking, but a lot can happen in 10 years.

usb-c is a very compelling connector but i'm not expecting another
change quite so soon, but it would not surprise me to see a transition
to usb-c, which has already begun on the retina macbook. maybe the ipad
pro will have both.

Wouldn't surprise me. I suspect that 2 Gig USB 3 flash storage devices
are almost being given away, may be an indicator.

If that's as bad as my luck goes, then I don't consider myself
unlucky. I had to buy two $19.95 cords instead of one $19.95 cords.
Big whoop.

The convenience store down the street sells those cables for $9.95,
but they aren't authentic Apple cables. (But, they are probably made
by the same Chinese 9-year-olds in same factory as the authentic ones)
but an extra $10 didn't break me.

I simply meant in the convenience sense. I'd prefer all my widgets had
the same plugs and adaptors. Over time they do align for a period.

that's why usb-c is so compelling.

with it, macs, pcs, chromebooks, iphones, ipads, android phones,
android tablets, all could use the same connector.

I wonder if the pending onset of USB-C is the reason prices of USB3
flash drives have plummeted.

probably not, because it's *very* new, with just a handful of products
using it.

Good morning or good evening depending upon your location. I want to ask you the most important question of your life. Your joy or sorrow for all eternity depends upon your answer. The question is: Are you saved? It is not a question of how good Rôgêr Digital Photography 0 April 21st 05 03:32 PM
