Photo restrictions in Ireland
"Russ Thornton" wrote in message
... We are planning a trip to Ireland. Does anyone know of any photo restrictions or maybe some pertinant tips they would like to share? Please email me along with response to newsgroup. Russ, hmm ... "photo restrictions" in Ireland - I can only assume you are alluding to taking photos of potential secure areas but I'm not altogether sure. You will be fine taking photos almost anywhere except simply bear in mind the normal common sense items ... - don't take photos of miltitary, police, police stations, army barracks etc. - you actually can but be aware that someone may ask for your film from your camera (this would be more the case in Northern Ireland where this is a big "no no" but people still do it on occassions) - take photos respectfully, i.e. some chapels, cathedrals, graveyards? etc. may not expect photographers - at the very least I would suggest no flash - if you see a "quaint" Irish person such as an old man whiling away the hours over a pint of Guinness then do the decent thing and ask if you can take his photo - especially if he's going to notice you first - obviously some museums, stately homes etc. do not permit photography Other misc. advice ... - I'm sure you are aware of the checked-in luggage scanning and to pack your film in carry-on - stick to what you can see on the map if you're in a city - courtesy goes a very long way in Ireland - tipping's not the norm but that's up to you - try the Guinness, fish and chips, champ, anything with potatoes, lamb, irish stew, and irish fry etc. - take it easy on the left side of the road if you're renting a car - the roads tend to be a little narrow at times - be prepared to talk about President Bush - someone will ask what's going on Be prepared for rain, sun, sleet and hail (joking, but you may get some adverse weather). Not sure how big a photographer you are but I would take plenty of film - as usual the smaller the store in the bigger the tourist area then the more you'll spend on film. Castles, lakes, cliffs, glens, houses, architecture, people, bars, beaches, fields, sheep are all up for photos. Just one example web site of Ireland photos ... http://www.planetware.com/photos/PHIRL.HTM It's all beautiful, you'll have a great time. If you have more specifics of where you are going then I would be more specific but you just said "Ireland" so I'm sort of short on specific advice. Regards, PK Thanks, Russ To respond to me just remove the capital NO before my address.
