Top Video Cameras
I was wondering if someone can point me into the direction of a
industry leading manufacturer that makes outdoor video surveillance. We need to be able to record either live video or still images of movement for at least a week with very high resolution. I have to capture license plates going in and out of several areas, probably 5 total. I plan on just capturing this information to a PC over a CAT5 Network. |

IQinVision is the brand of high-res IP cameras we use (www.iqeye.com); they have CCTV cameras ranging from 1.3 to 5.0 MP, all supporting power-over-ethernet, some with day/night capability. If you want to save a week's worth of video from five separate areas, you'll probably want a dedicated computer for the task, as that many cameras at that resolution will mean a LOT of data. Keep in mind that this isn't going to be cheap... you're looking at anywhere from $1000-$2500 *per camera* depending on the resolution you want, at least another $1k for a machine capable of handing and storing the data. You'll also probably want DVR/NVR software to properly deal with storing/searching/etc. the recorded video - we use, sell and support both VideoInsight (www.video-insight.com), and Vigil (www.camacc.com) systems. VideoInsight has a dedicated IP-camera server application that would probably work best if you're not using any analog cameras. This is all a bit off-topic for rec.photo.digital, so feel free to email me directly with any other questions... this is what I do for a day job |
