Did ya hear the one about the Polish astronaut who got left behind on
the Moon?

Nope

Well, I can't finish that one, but did you hear about the poles who were
planning to fly to the sun? When asked if that was safe due to the heat,
they explained they'd make the trip at night... (ba dump dump, TISH)

Also, film has an expiration date; something I learned the hard way
once.

I am thinking my next P&S(or even SLR) will be digital.
Can someone give me a reason(s) to stay with film?

It sounds like your problem was one of being organised, not one of choice
between photographic media.

No offense--I don't really believe any race/nationality is inferior to any
other. Republicans, now, that's another question altogether...
;-)

Yeah, they definitely seem to think everyone else is inferior...

Luckily, not all Americans are Republicans.
Living in Montreal, we go mostly to New York state when going to US and
people over there are always very nice. Not many Republicans in New
England...
As for the joke, I've heard it before and it wasn't about Polish
astronauts, they were Russian.
Speaking of which:
an engineer in Moscow calls another engineer that went for 1 year
contract to Syberia and asks him:
- How is it going?
- Good, everything is fine.
- How about the temperature?
- -15C.
- -15C? I just saw on TV that it is -45C in Syberia.
- Oh, that's outside...

As to sharpness, no problem, but again I spend time with the USM to get
it right at each print size. I get the impression that many people have
not spent the time to learn to use USM properly and/or they use the
simple "sharpen" filter which is a hit or miss proposition.

I've PS Element 3. I've only used it a couple of times and have sent away
for a book. I tried the quick fix with spotty results. What is the USM?
I'm sure my book will talk about how to use it, but it may not tell me what
it is.

Nobody forces you to buy such large memory cards. And unless it is a
microdrive, complete card failures are *very* rare, and usually `lost`
images can be recovered with free software like PC Inspector from
www.convar.de. In 3 years of very heavy digital shooting I have lost
zero images (spelt NONE). In 10 years of film shooting, for roughly
the same number of images!, I lost one half a roll through my own
stupidity, another half roll through a major camera mechanical failure,
and 2 rolls at the (*professional*) lab - one lost, one badly
misprocessed...
