Sony DSC HX80 Sensor

wrote: Just where in the specs does it say anything about the aspect ratio of the sensor ?! Surely if it was rectangular, and it might well be, it would give the aspect ratio. All it says is 1/2.3 ", which is a bit less tham 1/2 " . If it was rectangular, then one dimension wouldn't be enough to completely specify, further sugesting a square. i explained that already. |

You most certainly did not. All you said is that most uses are rectangular and I agree and even listed them, BUT the aspect ratio of each differs. If the sensor is rectangular, then it's aspect ratio would have to be 16:9 to accomodate all the others and these would have to just be side crops of the 16:9. I suspect this is not the case. |

You most certainly did not. i did. it's also basic math. All you said is that most uses are rectangular and I agree and even listed them, BUT the aspect ratio of each differs. yep. If the sensor is rectangular, then it's aspect ratio would have to be 16:9 to accomodate all the others and these would have to just be side crops of the 16:9. I suspect this is not the case. nope. it's whatever the manufacturer wants it to be. most cameras are 4:3 or 3:2, but there can be others. |
