Default X-T2 Capturing Gannets

I thought I would try to get things back to photography. These were shot with
an X-T2 + XF 50-140mm f/2.8 (+2X teleconvertor, not my favorite accessory,
but it seems to have worked.)

I wonder if folk are aware that we once had a naval aircraft with the
same name!

Nice stuff from an enthusiast but has he really got the right tool?

Excellent! I'd love to try an X-T2 but can't justify it for the amount
of photography that I do. I manage with an X-E1 and the humble XC
50-230, but you do have to pre-focus. So OK for shots of show-jumping,
birds on perches or at feeders.

The X-E1 was a good camera when it was first released, but not a great choice
when it comes to AF-C and tracking of subjects in motion. The firmware
updates/upgrades issued for the X-E2, and X-E2S were not available for the
X-E1 so it did not gain the improvements to AF, particularly with zone
tracking. If you can find one of those used, or perhaps even a clearance
X-E2S, they would do a better job for those subjects than your X-E1, and they
are available at very good prices.

You would gain a much improved AF.

http://fujifilm-x.com/af/en/

If you want to get an even greater improvement you might consider an X-E3,
which was released with improvements to AF which the X-T2 only gained via a
firmware update not available for the X-E2/E2(S). The X-E3 would also give
you the newer 24MP X-Trans III sensor and CPU with all that brings to the
game.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm certainly sold on the Fuji system, but
to be honest I can't justify upgrading at the moment. It's different for
(say) a professional sports photographer whose living depends on
capturing the moment.

I don't claim any special merit in the following image, but I was
pleased with the number of reasonable pictures that I got on this day,
with manual focus of course! Hand-held. X-E1 with the 50-230 fully extended.

None the less, it is worth thinking about, I am sure that you would be able
to find a new clearance X-E2S, or a used X-E2/E2S at very affordable prices,
even at UK levels. ;-)

Good cameras are not only the exclusive playthings of the pros, us old farts
need toys as well. Think about treating yourself.

I just sold my pontoon boat, and now I am eyeing a new lens, perhaps that
50-140mm f/2.8, or perhaps something else...

That is pretty good.; Tough to make when depending on MF, so much easier with
the improved AF-C

Thanks. Maybe not so obvious from the photo, but this is "tent pegging"
where the rider attempts to pick up wooden pegs hammered into in the
ground using the tip of the lance. So there is a good fixed point to
focus on before the riders make the attempt. And since you are trying to
catch the most dramatic moment there is little to be gained from auto focus.

Nice series of images.
Here's two recent ones I took with my D500, and my 80-400 lens.
