I'd advise getting a fast reader, like Firewire or USB 2 if you have a port for
it. I'd avoid USB 1 readers. On my machine it takes about 5.5 times longer to
download a card using USB 1 than using USB 2. Brand probably doesn't matter
much.

They all work well. Buy what's on sale.
Buy a USB2 reader.
(If you have an older computer, you may have to buy a USB 2 PCI card to
realize the enhanced speed of the USB 2 interface).
If you think that you may download images from other people's cards too,
(e.g., joint vacation), you should get a multi-format reader. They only
cost a few $$$ more than a straight CF reader.
