Science Diet vs Canidae
Kevin McMurtrie wrote: Hi. My vet carries Science Diet, and of course, he claims that it is the best dog food available. I've heard great things about Canidae. Is it better that Science Diet, or is that hype too? Thanks. Kevin You posted the exact same message in the cat group (changing "cat" to "dog", here)! Methinks we have a troll on our hands! For what it's worth, Canidae is a puppy food only. Just look at the AAFCO statement on the bag and you'll see, "for all life stages" there. That means it met the requirements for the most demanding stage of life...the growth stage. The nutrients will meet the higher needs of a growing puppy, but can be deleterious to an adult and especially an older dog. High levels of fat can lead to obesity. High levels of phosphorus can exacerbate kidney disease. High levels of sodium can lead to hypertension, etc. High levels of calcium can lead to lower urinary tract problems, and so on. You've got to ask yourself what nutritional background Canidae has if they don't even know the basics of companion animal clinical nutrition! |
