Maybe we should have stuck with CCD a while longer?

I was secretly please my 5D died from exposure to a light shower. It had
banding worse than those examples.

I keep wondering what's going to happen when they refine the Kodak and
Dalsa CCDs used in the med format and new Leica S2 gear to the point
where their noise control is decent. If that happens, it'll mean the
medium format gear has a decided quality edge over all the DSLRs (apart
from pixel count and size) because CCDs don't band. According to one
source I read, the CMOS circuit complexity and the difficulty in
controlling response rates on a per pixel basis means that banding is not
going to be fixed any time soon. No doubt Adobe or someone will write
some kind of post-processing software routine that'll minimize the
problem, but every time they do that, it means the image gets manipulated
more and more, just as it is in-camera noise removal, for example.

It's controllable Rich but it smears the image doing it.

Why were you showering with your camera?

Why were you showering with your camera?

Hardly call a misty trickle a shower.
