Image Recovery
My wife's Cannon S3 IS crapped out while she was on vacation in Eastern Europe. Some "know-it-all" reformatted her SD card while it still had pictures on it. (No it wasn't me. I wasn't there). I've tried the utilities that used to come installed on Sandisk's and Lexar's CF cards, and Photo-Saver and Card Recovery. Nothing has been able to recover any images from the SD card. Does anyone know of any utilities that might be able to recover images from this reformatted card? I'm thinking that for all practical purposes, there's no data on the card to recover. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Some cameras format by just erasing the file alocation table and thus the image data could still be there but very very very hard to reconstruct. But other cameras do a full format that would totally erase the image data from the card and in that case the data is completely gone and impossible to recover. You may want to try every recovery program you can get but be braced for the high probability that there is no data to recover. Sorry Randy ========== Randy Berbaum Champaign, IL |

Sorry Randy --- Try : Photorescue 3.0 (easy to use, very good) or the very powerful Expert version from http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/ or this free recovery utility: PC Inspector http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm If none of these can recover, maybe a professional recovery service can ? -- AsleB;Oslo,Norway |

Sorry Randy ========== Randy Berbaum Champaign, IL Every recovery package I've come across will attempt to recover from a formatted card. As far as I know only a full format on a floppy overwrites and does a data check. This is necessary because of the questionable reliability of this media. Try this one, it's free and quite good: http://vaiosoft.com/products/recoverymanager.html Dave Cohen |
