Default Pentax going down for the 10 count?

RichA writes:
It's an APS-C camera maker whose product system is inferior to both
the big ones. I don't mean the K7/ K20D is inferior, though the case
can be made, but their system is purely aimed at consumers. Pros
don't factor in.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make -- if their low-end
and "mid-end" ("prosumer") DSLRs are as good as the low-end and mid-end
DSLRs of Canikon (which they certainly are), _and_ they don't aim at the
high-end market, then what's problem, exactly?

Is profit in the DSLR market all at the high-end? If so, wouldn't they
then be aiming at the high-end for the future? If not, then...? Is it
merely the marketing advantage Canikon get from high-end bragging
rights?

The press-release said they were looking for an "alliance", which could
imply many things, and could just as easily suggest that they're serious
about putting Pentax on a good track for the future.

Many of the smaller players seem to be harder time navigating the
digital camera market than they did in the film era. A company such as
Pentax which is traditionally very strong in optics and camera design,
could really benefit from an alliance with other companies that have
more experience with sensors, electronics, software, etc.
