PE5 says I'm renaming folders?
Hi all.
Having just copied a map within the My Pictures folder, renamed it (map name)_2 using Windows Explorer and placed the copied folder in My Pictures, I am not able to view the files within the copied folder. Double-clicking it, I get this message: "The folder being renamed contains files that are not visible in the Organizer. Are you sure you want to rename this folder?" "Yes/No". Why is this? I haven't tried to rename anything at all, as far as I know? And where are the files/pictures (which I made a copy of to train myself on using PE5)? The files ARE visible when I use Explorer or ACDSee to view the folder. thanks in advance, ole k |

The map that you copied is either a file, or a link to the map file. Now you say that you copied a folder (instead, or in addition?). Could you clarify what you actually did? Also, if you created or copied any folders, give their names as well as their locations, one of which might be something like this : :: "I created another folder named "My Pictures" and copied it into :: the original "My Pictures" folder, so that my copy of the map is :: now located within the folders like so : :: ...\My Documents\My Pictures\Adobe\My Pictures\(map name)_2.jpg |

(The Norwegian word for "folder" is "mappe", hence the "map" thing.) OK, this is what I did: Within the My Pictures folder I have several subfolders on two levels, year and year_month (like My Documents/My Pictures/2006/200612). I clicked one of those year_month folders, chose "Copy" and pasted it somewhere else within the My Pictures folder, after having renamed it something like "PSE5 test". According to Explorer the files are all within that new folder (My Documents/My Pictures/PSE5 test), and they are also available for editing using ACDSee, but doubleclicking the folder in PE5s Organizer only gives me this Renaming message. Hoping this made sense, Ole K |

Hoping this made sense, I've about reached the limit of my competence with PE. I only have PE4 installed and rarely use it. But I tried to duplicate what you did by creating two folders within my My Pictures folder, one containing actual duplicate copies of the original jpg files, and the other only containing links to the original files. None of these, including the originals were ever seen before by PE4. First, double clicking either of these two new folders opens no files, but does open the folder, and then PE4 waits for me to select individual jpg files to open. This it's able to do, whether the selected files are true files or just links to the files. The only thing I can further suggest is that if you've saved these files before in PE's Organizer and the folder (or files) that you've worked with before have the same names as the new one that gives you the "Renaming" error message, perhaps PE5 is warning you of a conflict with an existing name in its Organizer database. Try renaming the new folder using Windows Explorer, and see if PE5 is then able to open your new folder. |

(snip) Thanks a lot for your replies. I went through your suggestions, and ended up having solved the problem without knowing at which point it was fixed. Anyway, now I'm able to start plunging into the world of PE editing. Thanks again, Ole K |
