CompactFlash - Canon 20D folders
I just noticed that I am getting a collection of folders in the CF card
I use on my Canon 20D. The usual method I use of downloading does delete the image files, but the folders remain. So the non, unused, folders be deleted? -- Joseph Meehan Dia duit |

As said. Format the card in camera after downloading the pics to your PC.

There's another directory/folder though that it uses for database purposes which I don't mess with, and no image files are stored in that one. I'd be extremely surprised if manually deleting image folders with a computer causes problems with a 20D. |

Are you suggesting that I format it in the camera, just to eliminate the folders or because once formatted in the camera it will delete them itself? "tomm42" wrote in message oups.com... Yes Joseph you should reformat the CF card in your camera. I asked Canon and
they said it keeps the card in order and keeps the camera-to-card speed optimal. The good news is that the camera will remember your next image number (sequence) as long as don't re-set (see the camera's menu). Are you suggesting that I format it in the camera, just to eliminate the folders or because once formatted in the camera it will delete them itself? |

Good advice to reformat the card after each session. And, yes, then it
will continue with the next numbered frame. However, I have seen mine go backward! After a session, I'm in the habit of putting some of the images back on the card so I can recheck the blinkies, etc. I think this can freak out the next frame number because even though I reformat it in the camera again, it seems to then continue from perhaps that last older frame and repeats some numbers. Perhaps you can even get it to restart at any given number by renaming a copy and putting any old number back on the card and reformatting. I only recently noticed that the frame numbers are repeating and have not yet been able to pin down its behavior precisely. Bill K.
