Default Maxxum 7000 exposure meter calibration

James Cloud wrote:

I have an old maxxum 7000 camera. Everything is still working, with
the exception of the exposure metering -- it's reading sunny 19. Not
a lot off, but just enough to bug me.

To compensate for it, I've been using the ISO override function on the
camera.

I am not overly attached to the camera, so I am open to experimenting
with it. My questions a

1) How does camera's exposure metering work "mechnically"? If it
involves the mirror, could this problem potentially be solved by
"dulling" down the mirror?

The sensor is located somewhere in the prism assembly, most
likely at the top of the mirror. Light enters the lens hits the
mirror goes up through the focus screen, bottom of prism up to
the sensor.
Dulling down the mirror would be a way to calibrate it, but would
ruin lower light shooting and possibly give the autofocus a
harder time.

On a bright sunny day (around 10-11 am, 2-3 pm)
Get a white styrofoam cup (clean).
Put the cup over the lens.
Set ISO 100
Set f/16 (aperture priority or manual)
Point at horizon in direction of the sun.
Reading should be 1/90 ... 1/125

2) Can the exposure metering be calibrated internally? And how?

Probably. My stock answer is "by the old guy at the local repair
shop".

Cheers,
Alan

oops: top of the __prism__ is what I meant to say.
