I don't remember your posts showing those wide line widths before. At home I have been using Hogwasher for a few years, and the same for Newstap on my iOS devices. I had found that with Hogwasher when posting long URLs, they were being broken even when using delimiters ( ) when I have the line length set. So I just post with text unwrapped, and the URLs are unbroken when contained by delimiters. This just started happening within the last couple of weeks. Your sentences won't wrap in my reader, but when i reply, they wrap fine in the compose window. Nospam says it's Agent, which both I and Tony use, and since no one else seems to see what we're seeing, I suppose it is, even if I can't find anything in the settings to try to correct it. You haven't recently changed anything at all? i didn't say it's agent. i said that it's soft-wrapping, something that's existed for many decades. i don't know if agent supports that. my guess is that it doesn't, given that it doesn't support various other standards. Well, if it doesn't support it, then it's Agent. To be honest, I'm suspecting it's another mystery issue from some very recent Win 10 update, and that update is affecting Agent somehow. And this laptop is pretty darn old, and didn't even support Win 8.1, and I've been doing workarounds for this and that ever since I forced Win 10 onto it. I've been dealing with built-in mic issues ever since a Win 10 update at least a year ago. The good news is that it's hardly a big deal. Ah well, word-wrap is a distraction from real problems these days. This is not the only newsgroup I read, and - in fact - I only read this one sporadically. The other group has significantly more volume and contributors. The Duck's posts are the only one that have changed that I have noticed. There are a couple of posters in another group whose posts don't wrap, but they never have. I normally don't read the posts that don't wrap. In every other case, the poster is one that isn't posting anything worth reading. But Duck is one of the sensible ones so I do read his anyway. I put the fix in a separate post, but this is it: On the menu bar click View, and then check Word Wrap. That's all there is to it. It got unchecked somehow, maybe by me... Adorama had a nicely spec'd Macbook Pro the other day at a decent price. I was sorely tempted. Too bad a stimulus check won't quite cover one of those... Mendel Mendlowits, the founder of Adorama, died earlier this week. His death will be a loss to the industry. Adorama, B&H, and Keh are the only online camera sources that I'll buy from. Both companies are straight arrow in a market plagued with many unreputable sources. I buy about everything from B&H, but have gotten a couple of things at Adorama, and was always happy with their pricing and customer service. I just don't like their marketing approach, but it's not exactly a deal killer. I like the Payboo card from B&H - it removes the sales tax from your purchases. That can be a pretty big number with photo gear. |

In general, a polarizing filter wouldn't be expected to fail, but an expensive, complicated camera might. At the same time, i don't hear much about any photo gear failing, so I don't worry much about that. I've personally been lucky so far. plus it has an incredibly stupid name. I think their maketing target is high-income 5-year-olds. |

With B&H I have fewer concerns with much of the cameras and other gear I buy from them. I have bought 2 gray market items from them over the years, and those continue to function without issue years later. When it comes to their PayBoo card and the instant sales tax fix, it gave them a way to continue to discount sales tax for online sales to States such as California, and comply with various state laws. All invoices show the particular state sales tax charged to maintain compliance, and the customer using a PayBoo card gets the rebate. So the state concerned gets their tax, the customer get the rebate, and B&H gets the sale. There is an added benefit in that NY State residents can get a sales tax rebate by using the PayBoo card. The big caveat with using the PayBoo card is, it is essential to pay off any balance, and not to treat it as a credit card as the interest rates are punitively high. ....and photo gear can, and does fail, and the various manufacturers perform at different levels when it comes to fulfilling warranties, and making fixes for faults subject to recall. plus it has an incredibly stupid name. From what I've read, the Air isn't such a good choice for those things. it depends how much video you do and how fast you want it. for the occasional video, the air is perfectly fine. on the other hand, for a pro rendering numerous 4k videos, it is less than ideal. For now, I have what I need to do those things, including the iPad Pro. I have lots of things to get sorted out before I get back to spending lots of time with those hobbies, but the day will come... the ipad pro is actually a *very* good choice for video work. |

I have lots of things to get sorted out before I get back to spending lots of time with those hobbies, but the day will come... The first question you should ask yourself is, “How much do I need a laptop to do the work I have in mind?” These days for travel I use my iPad Pro, and for my serious editing I have my Retina 5K, 27 inch iMac. I have considered a new MBP, but then I look at my personal needs in retirement, and my old 17 inch MBP has sat idle for years. If I were in your situation, and wanted a full value macOS work station I would be looking at a 5K 27 inch iMac which can be had, well configured for a surprisingly good price. Take a look at what B&H, Adorama, and especially OWChttps://eshop.macsales.com have to offer in desktop iMacs in both new and refurbished Macs. A reasonable configuration for a 27 inch 5K would be: 3.8Ghz i5, 32 GB RAM, & 2.0 TB fusion drive $1699-$1899. Also if you add software such as Parallels, or VMware Fusion, you will still be able to run much of your Windows software. https://www.parallels.com https://www.vmware.com/products/fusion.html You could do that just using BootCamp. https://support.apple.com/boot-camp -- Regards, Savageduck |
