I'm guessing that was taken in a National Park. A National Park animal never
turns down a free meal.

You're right in your implication that many animals in the parks become
quite tame. But it's not just the parks. A patient person can persuade
birds, including hummingbirds (in the Americas) to eat out of their
hands. I started with hummingbirds by resting my cupped hand on a piece
of red paper and filling the cupped hand with sugar solution. This on
my deck and I thought "This will take hours or days; I won't be able to
sit long enough." Wrong. It required about five minutes for the hummers
to find me and another couple of minutes for them to perch on my hand
and sip the nectar. By the end of the season they knew me and I could
move around with the birds perched on my fingers. I'll try to get some
photos in the summer of 2017. If you try this, wash your hands
thoroughly beforehand and afterward. You're likely to get pooped on.

AFAIK feeding the critters in National Parks is not encouraged. However
in one bird sanctuary near us, Elizabeth Morton, feeding the birds in
encouraged. There may very well be others.

BTW Hope you guys are prepared for your oncoming storm.

Actually, there is a sign at the entrance to the Elizabeth Morton
Sanctuary asking visitors to not feed the birds.

They don't like you feeding animals that can be dangerous, like bears and
mountain lions. And they worry that you'll feed any animal something that he
likes but isn't good for him. And of course people leave plastic wrappers
around that still smell of food, which the animals sometimes eat. The most
effective moochers seem to be squirrels and chipmunks. And of course seagulls
- who usually don't mind posing for photographs.

We're led to believe that this may be one of those rare storms where the snow
falls mainly in ski country. So we're leeping our fingers crossed.

The folk who work there have said otherwise.

Pretty much. We got an inch of snow and a coating of ice on the driveway. Ski
country got clobbered, which they loved.
