File Cropping

I am looking for a program that will take a 1024 x 768 image array and
extract (crop) the central area into a 640 x 480 file. I would also like to
be able to batch this process to transfer about 10,000 image files in this
way as quickly as possible. Suggestions of an image program that would do
this task greatly appreciated.

Any software that allows scripts will do this; I use PaintShop ProX.

if you'd been around here any time at all or looked at the archives
the answer is obvious.
