The supposed to be glossy, right? I'd calculate three years use from an
all in one...

My 'all in one' was brought in April 2009. Deceased September 2014.

But when you say 3 years 'use' do you mean that if you use it for 12 hours
per day it will last 6 years and 12 years if use for 6 hours per day ?

You know what I mean.

Not sure how you can so relibley know how long any computer will last.

No one can. But three years is the limit for Apples extended warranty
"Apple Care"... If you buy an iMac you should plan for your next
purchase within 3 years.

The point is that you have to look at your ugly self in that mirror
screen of yours for those three years. ;-p

A friends first intel imac from 2006 was OK until the end of last year when
it developed a graphocs problem since then it was used with a TV. But died
recently when lightning took it out a couple of months ago.

it makes no difference how much it's used. what matters is whether it
can run modern software, and 3-5 years is typical.

macs generally last longer than windows boxes do, but either way,
you're stuck with old software and unable to run the latest, so at some
point you need to get a new computer, even if the existing one is fully
functional.

Hmmm.

I have an 9 year old Acer running Windows XP which is a 13 year old
operating system last updated 6 years ago. It doesn't quite do
everything I want to do but it suits my wife's purposes very well.

what exists on it still works, but it run cs6, lr5, windows 7 and
certainly windows 10.

And if one only needs the apps it currently runs, there is no reason to
upgrade.

My 2007 iMac is still running (I sold it for just shy of $1000 a couple
years ago - I run into the buyer occasionally (local restaurant owner)
and he's delighted with it - or rather his son, who took it over, is
delighted with it).

What PC sells for near $1000 after over 5 years of use?

The point is that you have to look at your ugly self in that mirror
screen of yours for those three years. ;-p

When the screen is lit with content you don't see yourself at all. And
with the later Macs (last couple years) the screen is less reflective
still.

What is "Windows 10"? Has Microsoft skipped a major release?

And odds are that that Acer will run Windows 7 or Windows 8 just fine.

As said: That's not he point. But I wouldn't calculate TCO over a longer
period than three years for this kind o commodity.

"lit with content"... You're a photographer, right? Then the reflexions
of your ugly face will appear in that little black dress, deep black
water or whatever.

nonsense.

just because the warranty expires doesn't mean the computer does.

And odds are that that Acer will run Windows 7 or Windows 8 just fine.
